she wants a pic based on this taken at a friends wedding this year - she likes the soft almost greyscale one best - it was late evening and thats how the light was, but my first attempt had them looking really grim...so i've now used the faces off the other one and am much happier about it. I was going to paint in the churchyard too but charles thinks its a bit gloomy and a simple soft colour range would be better - not asked tan yet - she'll prob asy do what i want... very helpful. so what do you think? its cut down so the family fill the centre of a 16 x 20 in canvas, but there's about a two inch border round them - tombstones and church of soft colour contrast?

I would agree with Charles there, a nice soft background colour and large figures that fill most of the space would look great.

May I ask, being nosey here, if the young man that Tania is with is the childrens father?

no - he's not seen them since easter 2009...not interested in them sadly but thats tans husband james - they married last year and he's a really nice lad - has two girls of his own that they have eve other weekend and for tea 2 x week and extra in hols - the sort of father kids should have and he is great with tans kids too, they think the world of him and treat him as their dad tho they cal him james. he likes sceince and building things so him and daz get on really well and they're always doing something togther.
its sad when relationships break up but james is how absent dads ought to be in an ideal world - sadlt daz and beth dad didn't do much with them when he was there and tho tan tried to keep him contact he wasn't interested - he's got a new partner who has three kids and one with him and is having their second and he just doesn't bother about daz and beth. when tan was taking them he kept saying things like he had no money for fuel, then no car so couldn't see them etc then daz was incar withtan when they passed him driving the pther way. daz hasn't forgiven him for telling lies and neither of them want contact though they do still see his parents when tans this way and she drops them off there.
finished my horse comission and Joe colected it half hour ago and was really pleased with it. settled on £50 in the end - i told him i'd do it for that as it was first one for him and he's my nephew ( but i've about 50 of them and neices and greats!)but any more would be usual for that size of 200-300. he said his gf has sisters with two horses and they might want one too so fingers crossed - then i'llget my hammock!!

Well the reason I asked Jeannie was because I thought you had said that Tanya married last year but I just couldn't help but be amazed at the way they all look perfectly related in the photo! It's uncanny, you'd think he was their dad for sure

Keeping my fingers crossed that you get your hammock!
I've seen a nice swing I would like but I don't think we have enough garden left now to put it in LoL

I'm struggling with this - had a prob with forgetting i'd used charcoal as a trace and it made my first layers ...murky, very murky - they all had blackish faces i've really just worked on faces to get them right before anything else - used up wet paint on clothes to seal rest of charcoal and save waste but not spending time on that til i get the faces right. i've gone between the two to get the best looks but tho it resmebles them its not close enough. i'll work more today but any help would be good please as to where i've gone wrong.

forgot to take photos between stages here, got carried away painting - still struggling with tans mouth tho

i had her mouth just perfect at one point and then...while blending a little more colour on her cheeks swept the brush across the wet paint without realising and cannot get it right now.I've done the same tinkering with the face colours, almost right then i add a little of something and it all goes wrong again...still, good learning though why i say learning when i keep making the same mistakes i'm not sure!! I had a thought early am - i've my oil pastels in studio - i might use them to give me a little more control and also on some or the rest of painting such as leaves and flowers in the grass. its been a fun exercise anyway and if tan doesn't want/like it i'll have it in my home.

Charels wants to know how i can get so filthy when painting - hands yes, but my upper arma and paint on my cheeks and forehead? i think the forehead came from when i ran out of fingers to hold wet brushes and put one in my mouth..and reaching across painting is where the arms come in. I keep steady my hand by resting my elbow on the painting and forget there's wet parts still but thats helping my blending skills!
i'll post more as i continue.

apart from a bit i seem to have missed over tans right shoulder ( dunno how that happened?) and her mouth...i Think i've finished. i'm not sure i CAN get her mouth right - i must have painted it and scraped off 30 times now and i'm getting sick of it.
i thought i had james pretty well, everyone recognises him instantly but after my latest tinkering when i uploaded i suddenly thought "i've painted antanddec" - well i don't know which is which but poor James looks like one of them - previous photo tan thought he looked like Edward out of Twilight...i've only read the books not seen films so i don't know - she said it was cos i'd done too much hair - i was intending to paint that down - brush overload prob at the time but gave up on that painting anyway.
