That's kind of you Jeannie, thank you. I'm sure Nicola will call when they arrive, she's working away between 10am and 1pm so I hope her postie comes before that or after it. I will let you know when they arrive.
Yesterday after reading about antihisimines I found that it was ok to give dogs Piriton so bought some and both pugs are on half tablet a day. Haven't noticed any problems so far and it's roughly £3.50 for a months supply which beats a visit to the vet
Nice sunny start to the day here, Rob's home and off to have his hair cut then I'll be painting while he works in the office....very civilized LoL |

i did think about having a go at that once judie - but as usual never gt round to it.. perhaps this year i should - there are a few little pine seedlings i've noticed from the big 80+ ft pines - they'd be really good along with some oak, chestnut and beech. even hawthorn might be worth trying cos its a lovely tree that has "aged" bark quite quickly.. i'll have to get the kids advice - they'll remember from one of the kid film - karate kid maybe? with the old chinese man mr miagii
had a phone call last night - charles picked it up "you've won a musical instrument" he said, handing me the phone.. puzzled i took it to hear the lady say she was ringing from Learning Curve to say I'd won.. a musical INCHWORM... present for the new baby. since tan told me and sarah pregnant too i've been adding baby stuff to my competition list. only worth about 15 quid but still nice to win |

Ahh that's lovely, so people really do win these competitions (was it in a magazine?) My Nicola received her trees yesterday, she was out part of the day and didn't see anything until this morning when she found them at the back door She is delighted with them Jeannie, thank you very much from her. She says you were naughty and didn't put a return address so that she could send you postage.

Jeannie. I don't know if you remember me saying about the roses I picked one year, they are the old fashioned red perfumed roses when the leaves shrivelled and died, new leaves grew back on the stems and eventually I was left with one healthy rose, it grew roots in a milk bottle and I was able to plant it and now its a lovely healthy flowering rose I want to try again this year to see if I can get one to strike for you. Meanwhile the bunch of roses I brought from Tesco's back in March, seem to doing the same thing, all the leaves died back and are now being replaced by healthy new leaves on all 10 stems, the flowers are a red with white edges. If they do succeed and anyone would like to give the some a home I would be happy to post on, there isn't much space in my garden I am afraid. but would be nice it they do grow to spread a little happiness

thanks raven - that looks good. i keep finding new comps each month to add to the usual ones - that one you sent me last month has a nice lot on - i only do ones from "real" sites - not those competition only type that then constantly spam you i can deal with a few emails from sites - thats fair exchange - but not hundreds.
thanks judie - thats very kind. i do remember you saying about it last year and i tried but mine just went yucky, next time i'll change the water more often I LOVE roses and we've quite a few here but because garden is so big we need lots of any plant to look right so i've a cuttings mania - i've managed a few roses from sticking bits in the ground but not enough for real sucess from the hundreds i must take each year(when i prune them i pick best bits for cuttings)I'ce been trying to work out which has the most sucess - old wood thats hard or soft bendy new growth. i take all the leaves of bar the topmost one and if thats large trim it back then poke them in ground. i've not tried them with hormone rooting powder either - that might be worth a go. - i am going to try some indoors or in polytuynnel in water as you have such sucess that way - i've some fuscias in there in water at the mo as tan's james says his dad takes cuttings of them that way and the ones i've been doing in soil haven't taken that well. put out about a dozen verbena cuttings last week from 1 i bought in morrisons about 6 weeks ago - some plants seem to strike easy and others need dif techniques. I've some beautiful clematis that i've never tried cuttings of - should have a go at them too. i did buy 3 surfinas that i took cuttings from so fingers crossed they take cos i want them for my hanging baskets... |

this week we've had two lots of strawberries from the polytunnel - they were delicious. i think its that they're eaten so soon after picking that is why home grown stuff had such flavour - i love home grown broc ( we had last of that yesterday but i didn't manage to grown alot this year - lots of plants in now for next year) but until i tried the home grown stuff i wasn't keen on it at all, grew it because tan loves it. I've also managed - first time ever! - to get sweet peas before july. set them last autumn in polytunnel, and planted them out in march and this week had first bunch. they smell wonderful, i've about 6 stems in a vase with last of the lily of the valley and two stems of sweet rocket - lovely plant that self seeds everywhere. I set some as usual this year which only went out two weeks agao so hopefully when these sweet peas have finished i'll have more to follow. |

I love sweet peas Jeannie.
I'm having a meltdown because I can't believe how much crap we've collected over the years. We're having to get rid of a load of stuff that has just been stored upstairs 'cos Mum and Dad will be moving in with us in a couple of weeks. I'm going to have a van load of stuff for the tip and a car full of stuff for the local charity shops.
Mum and Dad are happily giving away all the furniture they can't bring with them to friends and neighbours, we're having a new sofa they haven't used and we're really excited because eventually we'll have two studios, a pottery studio upstairs and a painting studio/garage/utility room outside. That'll be done next year though. All good things to those who wait. :bouncy |

Mum still uses the kiln at college because she does quite tall pieces, things may have to change too. My cousin is having some problems so the pottery studio may well become a bedroom for her. I just can't leave her struggling like she is at the moment, problem is she's hard work and though Mum, Dad and Steve have agreed that she move in if she has to, it won't be easy. Mind you, I think I'd get bored if life were easy. Dad's mental condition has deteriorated quite rapidly and he's not very patient so it could get quite explosive. We'll see, I've got my fingers crossed it won't come to that but if you expect the worst anything better than that is a bonus! |
