Thank you Judie for your kind words but I'm afraid my motivation is definitely monetary in that the better I do, the more I earn and apart from my income in my own little business it's the only money I have. Fear of poverty is a great motivator

quick update on the two guys ripping off the neighbour - policeman was here wed pm taking statement from Charles.( they are prosecuting - court next month. i threw away the scrap of paper i'd written the numberplate down on - well - i didn't think anyone needed it and was trying to have a tidy before we left for CP. smacked wrist for me ) the lady next door to mrs D ( the old girl done over) came rushing down to see him ( she's learned not to fill in blank cheques now.. but cal police) two men in a white van had turned up to mrs d just a few mins ago saying the others didn't do a very good job and offering to finish it for ninety quid!! policeman went whizzing up but they'd left - don't think the neighbour had got the van details though. |

we used to do the "1st of may " stuff as kids - my grandkids seem to know nothing of it tho.. i remember there was "throw hats away ( though we didn't wear them - usually turned into hair pulling) - petticoat day - stinging nettle day" can't remember more. ...
i recall from a jilly cooper book " hurrah hurrah 1st of may, outdoor sex begins today, but as usual it do rain, so we F***s indoors again"
there - my literary gem for today |

'Ne'er cast a clout 'till May be out'
May here refers to the common name of the hawthorn bush, whose blossom indicates the arrival of summer, or warmer weather
Advice not to change from winter clothes to summer clothes until June, as there is often a sudden cold snap in May.
So, keep your goose greased vests on for a couple of weeks more folks. Mine is still strapped on tight with hairy string, its getting a tad itchy now though. |

Lois - i was the only kid at school who's mum and nan insisted she wore a liberty bodice - bloody thing - theres no liberty in one of those, damn rubber buttons and itchy fabric. no wonder i was bullied endlessly , skinny kid, has glasses ( 4 eyes!!) and has to wear a liberty bodice...ready made victim i used to have some huge bruises but it was still taunts that hurt more..still - the LB - at least i wasn't stitched in to it like they used to be years ago - can you imagine the stench in a class then??? eurrrgghhh
today the sun is shining and ... what to do - there's so much still needs doing in garden - had a weedkiller session yesterday - i don't like using it but on ground elder nettles brambles and bindweed - all of which we have- its the only way to limit its spread. its still a battle between me and it each year. there's another mouse or rat taken up residence in the polytunnel - found the hole a few days ago and the poison has been going why there - we've 2 acres, plus we're in the middle of loads of woods and wooded gardens - i hate killing them but i hate them eating my plants and seeds - they love peas and beans so its the poison again I hate a good session or rose mauring yesterday - you can use fresh manure round them so i just fill a tub up from field ( i take older stuff part rotted) and take it round garden tucked on my scotter... charles saw yesterday - ususally he doesn't notice and i just run scooter over the lemon balm wild patches in the grass to get rid oof any smell - there isn't much actually but he's a bit "ewww" about my scooter being used for stuff like that so it had a thorough wash over with hose. still got a dozen of so left to do though. my radishes, lettuce, sp oinion and carrots outside are up along with frst new pots and first shoots from my new apsaragus bed - 3rd time - ist time my big bro helpfully weeded it out when he was poking round the garden and i didn't notice til too late - 2nd lot got overtaken by the BBB ground elder, this time we've ( sarah!) made a proper separate bed all marked out so fingers crossed i've a bit next year and lots after. i've 2 crowns in P Tunnel that are about 6 years old and get some from that - 4 spears ready today its looking really productive in there with loads of seeds up peas, beans, sweetcorn, lettuce, toms cus peppers chillies and lots of flowers - annuals but i have to start some inside in case they lose out to weeds before they get time to come up. this year i'm trying some Physalis too - cape gooseberry - yellow berry type fruit you see in supermarkets - the grandkids love them. in a week or so we've (sarah- and she's 20 weeks pregnant) lots of planting out to do of the peas, beans etc - we're going to try putting down loads of manure (rotted stuff ready to use) and then covering with weed membrane and planting through that along the slope in garden that gets loads of sun and i've made into an orchard of tiny trees ( i bent all the long shoots over and tie them to main stem - look a bit odd but keeps size down and they throw out lots of flower shoots same as roses do from same process. - Thompson and morgan have started doing it now - they call them "festoon trees" My apples i planted sideways and tied down to make "stepovers" have loads of blossom - had a few apples last year - would have been more but muska got them first - £5 each from morrisons - in the garden catalogues the stepovers ( and festoons) are darn expensive when they are so easy to do. Muska is banned from the orchard now hence we're converting a grassy spot to veg plot - the current one gets too shaded once the big chestnut that overhands gets into leaf so is aparagus bed and for early potatoes and roots. for first time my currants and gooseberries and fruit starting too!! the strawbs in polttunnle are doing well - 6 bags hanging from roof with about 12 plants in each - had 3 last year and got loads of lovely slug free fruit - they do need lots of water and feed but for perfect fruit its great. i've got another 40 ir so plants outside too - like the raspberries of which there's a very long rown now - i just let runners/suckers form and then pot them on. i started with 12 raspberries and 12 strawbs and now...loads. well, hope everyone's going to vore today - one way or another even if its just spoiled paper - i have postal vote so did mine a while back, nice and easy for me - charles won't - he feels people might see - distrusts the system so goes down to booth to vote, he was there at just gone seven this am... he's an early person - i'm not... |

Morning...well its dull here but Rob is looking after me so not all bad!
It is very tedious having a broken ankle - hate not being able to do anything properly. Have a walking stick but the wee 'shoe' thing you get for your stookie (plaster cast) makes my leg longer than the other so hobbling around like a 90 year old! Only another 5 and a half weeks to go!
Voting and quick visit to Tesco my big thrill today! |
