That's a mum's role isn't it Jeannie, all change at the drop of a hat I have my eldest daughter here tomorrow with her other half and his mother. He's vegan so we are going out to the local Chinese for lunch, they usually have something to suit Nicola is staying overnight since she and Rob have so much to set up, he's her boss now since she got the post of Assets Officer with Leonard Cheshire recently. I will get to read my book |

gosh Jeannie my head is spinning with all that is going on. I do hope the fund raising gets a good amount. Do you remember that little girl who had cancer not so long ago, and they needed to raise a large sum to take her to the USA where they thought they had a chance of curing her, it was on the TV, and the money was raised. Her ] and they said they thought they could help, but in the end the Dr's told the mum she couldn't take the child out there for the treatment, the poor thing has just lost her battle for life. I cannot help wondering really if she shouldn't have been given that chance instead of dying here, I don't know really, but when there is the faintest chance of life, surely she should have been given it. |

its the saddest thing isn't it judie - we'd love everyone to have every chance but resources are finite - that's why people with rare cancers like Lorna and myself get little research into the cancers they have - everything comes to a cost/utilitarian benefit - and that seems fairest until its someone you know or read about and then its not just numbers.
I don't know what the answer is? i can't see we'll ever have the money to do all that we want :( maybe we could use space research budgets or something but then we get some useful medical spin off from that..the foam padding in my horse saddle was developed through a NASA project and i think thats what lead on to the memory foam mattresses etc that provide so much relief for some people from pain ( i'm much more comfortable since we bought ours a few months back)
gorgeous day here today so i'm hoping kids will play outside for a bit - then they come in and watch a film, or do some drawing/cooking etc having run their energy off - makes for a more peaceful day! |

That's it exactly, and the sooner we all realise that funds are finite in the NHS as well as everywhere else the better it will be for everyone. So many people are costing the NHS money by demanding prescriptions and doctors appontments for the most trivial illnesses. There are just not enough people working and paying tax to keep up with everything long term. I read today the for every four pounds the government spends, one of those pounds is borrowed. It's going to get worse if the sick and unemploymement figures keep increasing. I can't be alone in hoping that my children emigrate to somewhere like Australia or Canada at some point, especially if they intend having children because it weighted bottom heavy and getting worse here by the month.

Re Aus and Canada, a friend of mine (& my son's friend)has been over in Australia for the past year. He was head hunted and took his little family to Brisbane. They are so happy there that they've decided to have a third child. So much better standard of living for those prepared to work for it whereas in UK, even if you are not prepared to work at all (and I personally know several of this ilk who are proud to be unemployed and I could quote them, before the do-good brigade get on my case) you will have same standard of living as those who work very hard. Wrong, wrong! Who the heck is going to pay taxes enough in the future to pay for all their children?

My daughter emigrated to Australia when she met and married her husband, he was Australian, they worked like troopers, built their second lakeside home, but found that the level of red tape strangling. i.e. only trades people allowed to do roof plumbing, etc [or maybe a lot of backhanders] . But the clincher was the abysmal way they treated my daughter when she was pregnant, she was overweight, but even so their attitude was awful. I lived in Canada and USA for more than 5 years, and gawd help you if you needed medical help, despite having medical insurance. |

Well I have been watching 'House' on TV lately because I just love Hugh Laurie's character Have you see it? If the US hospitals are anything like that then it would be in everyones best interest to stay fit, slim and as healthy as they possible can LoL Perhaps that's the idea |

we've family who moved to australia - i see from FB how their living and it looks great - but they're al fit and healthy at the mo and hopefully will stay that way but...what happens when they're not. I think despite its faults the NHS is great - every system could be improved but that doesn't make it one of the best. I worry what happens to people with no med health insurance in coutries that require it to treat them? my freind lived in US many years ago - she was suspected to have cancer and required more tests but they had no insurance and her then husband said it'd have to wait - they couldn't afford it luckily it was a false alarm ( and she left him) but it illustrates what can happen at least our subs are taken at source - which brings us full circle to lorna's point about taxes and workers - its a stupid system at present. tans husband earns 17K working full time - pays maintenance for his two daughters plus having them ev other weekend and once each weekday evening. then he has to support tans kids ( their father gave up work so he doesn't have to pay- trying for the bad back/fainting bit - its worked for a year ) they get a little help now with rent and council tax, and some working tax credits. but her neighbours who don't work get all their rent and tax paid, plus free school meals, help with school trips and uniforms etc and recently free laptops for the kids - tan would have to pay for all of that. My farrier said his neighbour would qualify for best dad in world - always out with kids, at school events etc - he's four of them and gave up work becuse he's better off. Farrier says on a cold wet winters morning he wonders who'ds the mug - the one working or the one tucked up in bed...
It can't go on - must be at colaspse point now |

just a reminder in case anyone forgot - i will be in GENEVA this weekend... actually now its closer ( jay is driving us - we leave for the airport at 3.30 friday am ) i'm getting nervous..I've tried to ensure everything is ok - have got courtesy car from hotel doing the airport hotel journeys, got contact name for when we checkin and the airport have promised assistance - it's just that being in a wheelchair - even tho i'll take my crutches too - means i worry about being stranded somewhere if the chain breaks down. Holidaying in UK I've my little usual check-list of questions to ask about lifts, stairs, room and bathroom sizes etc but abroad is a new venture for me and i'm a bit nervous was going to pack this pm but spent the morning outside, first vet here for muska teeth rasping, then i set some carrots, radish , spring onions and mixed salad leaves, redid the mouse poison( but there's one or more in polytunnel and n her feed shed -they cat live elsewhere in garden in peace but not in my sheds - or house!) then i did a couple more book reviews and....flaked and had to go for a nap so its packing in the morning. I know what i want to take anyway - might make a tick list later being the list freak i am..then i'll def know what i need in morning.
BTW - remember that exhibition i was supposed to be part of? the one i just got Steve to frame works for? well, started on last monday and the organiser never did get back to my emails so that was money spent i could have saved - they look great but i needn't have got hem done just yet! |

Oooh yes, I had forgotten it was so close. Have a lovely time Jeannie.
I'm completely knackered because as well as cleaning up after plumbers and tilers every day this week, at work I've been doing my usual infertility days plus covering the Early Pregnancy scanning clinic every morning because the doctor who usually does it is on annual leave.... not only that but I'm training a Registrar to scan too!! Talk about huge learning curve...... I just officially qualified -only got confirmation two weeks ago that I've passsed everything....the ink on my certificate's not dried yet and I've been dropped in at the deep end. Best way to learn I suppose, but quite scary too. |
