i thought i'd share this - still makes me giigle thoughit shouldn't...
years ago you'd be hard put to find a paracetamol or a plaster in our house, now its like a dispensary. in kitchen we've three little drawers under the tea/coffee shelf and the rest of the meds go behind the tea/coffee containers. left drawer has my tablets, middle one a few first aid things and end one is charles one. he's diabetic so takes 2 x 80mg gliclazide morning and evening - something to do with keeping sugar levels reasonable i think? last week i'd been tidying the shelves and saw a blister pack of what i thought were gliclazde fallen out of box and put them in his drawer.
thurs night he has a nightmare, unknown for him - its me that get those...on fri pm he says the fire must be making him sleepy cos he nearly fell asleep that afternoon - also unheard of for him. luckily as he goes to take his tabs that evening he asks me to check - he said they seem a bit bigger than usual...when i look he's been taking some dihydracodeine (strong painkillers- not to be mixed with alchohol) that i'd been prescribed a while back but which gave me hallucinations ( horrible ones) and looking at the pack he'd taken them thurs pm after my tidy up and fri am instead of the gliclazide and was about to take two more..oops
No wonder he was feeling odd...he keeps saying am i trying to poison him..lucky we have no life insurance left or he might think about that more seriously can't ehlp it but the puzzled look on his face still makes me giggle - i'd not then owned up to my tidying session and he couldn't work out how they got in his drawer
I should have checked before i threw the pack into the drawer will be more careful - i've put a couple of packs of old meds we don't use anymore to go back to dispensary next time we go. |

Oh Dear Jeannie---well our place is like a chemist shop-Bill has the whole shelf of a double fronted cupboard-hes got heart tablets, diabetic tablets, diabetic injections, blood pressure tablets and cholestrol-he fetches 2 carrier bags back from chemists every two months! And he takes some vits etc! I sorted out the bottom shelf in same cupboard that has paracetamol, dio-calm etc -and found stuff 10 years out of date--took a full carrier bag back to chemist.Scarey cos Ive never checked dates on them before taking them! Its all nice and tidy now and half empty as well! |

And for the insomniac husband, try sleeping pills combined with Viagra, he'll sleep all night and won't roll out of bed. |

Any other tips for sleeping, I don't have a problem getting off but I do struggle to stay asleep any longer than about 4am, I am really stressed at work at the moment but there is nothing I can do about that, I could do with a few nights of good sleep to really recharge the batteries. I am a bit worried about myself, mental health wise and really need sorting, I had a panic attack yesterday morning and its still going on in the background. I know I dont have some of the issues that some of you do and I should be grateful for it but when I am down nothing works for me! bleaugh. I know I am as ill as someone with say a broken leg but you can't see my illness.
I can only liken it to having a load of monkeys loose in my head pulling all the files out of my filing cabinets, I have had antidepressents but that is just like distracting the monkeys with bananas, it only lasts for so long. |

lois - when i can't sleep I've a personal cd player by the bed and i play a "natural sounds " cd that i got from nw garden centre - i've also a "sleep" one Di(sparky) kindly sent me and sometimes i alternate them. they do help concentrate the mind onto music/sounds instead of worries....i also do flowers names/kids names/ colours/animals etc with each letter of alphabet - if you make your mind think of something instead of the random worries that pop through it it seems to help. plants would be up your street - sometimes i do 3-4 of each - z and x are a sugar though - xanths and xmas tree go in as a cheat! |

That can be one of the classic signs of depression -I know, because I had postnatal depression years ago. It's due to a depletion of neurotransmitters in the brain, so as you say Lois there is actually a physiological cause for it. Prozac worked for me, but I was told antidepressants don't work for everyone or can even make it worse. The stress at work won't be helping either, especially if there isn't any way to escape it.
I heard somewhere that vitamin deficiency and food intolerances can cause depletion of neurotransmitters. This link looks quite good as a starting point http://www.naturalhealthcourses.com/Reading_Room/Fighting_Depression.htm

I was sleeping badly too for a while there until I found it was Rob's intermittent snoring! At least the pugs snoring is constant and you can get used to constant noise. Last two night I found a small glass of wine works for me. I don't normally drink though so maybe that's why.
Jeannie ... poor Charles LoL I gave my son Chris one of my painklillers that were prescribed after my lung lobectomy because his wrenched ankle was hurting. Well he was disorientated by them so much he was in danger of falling over and he was having what he described as 'spaced out' feelings. This from someone who's no stranger to the smoked weed stuff too!
Just shows that they are not transferrable, they didn't have that effect on me. |

That makes interesting reading Annette. Lois I have heard that St Johns Wort is good, as its a natural plant extract. I use lavender to help me sleep, and a nice long relazing bath before hand all helps.

I had a nice surprise this morning. A very flattering email from a lawyer in the US who says, (and I quote) "I am an aspiring polymer clay artist. I've been "experimenting" for about 3 years now, when I'm not working at my day job. (I'm a lawyer during the day, but please don't hold it against me. LOL)
I have spent the better part of my evenings and weekends for months trying to figure out how you make a design that looks something like these beads of yours. I've tried everything from squishing and twisting skinner blends To making individual abstract canes. How do you create a design that looks like a painting? Is there a name for this technique? Since I don't make any jewelry, I'm realizing that I miss out on learning some of the beautiful techniques that jewelry artists use. Also, your Hand Made Pebble Beads look like they were painted with water colors, and yet I know they're made of polymer clay.
I don't want to take a lot of your time, but I was wondering if you could tell me if you used a particular technique. I know this is going to sound weird, and I promise I'm not a stalker, but I'm a bit obsessed with these beads."
As this is the second lovely email in a week (the last one was from a musician in Wales), my head is expanding rapidly ;o)

Send him a letter with the instructions, but charge him $400. |

actually it's a 'her' Annette. I looked her up (cynical as ever I had to check out the email address!)
There will be a trade off as I'm after publicity with a BIG P. I'm impressed by the way that groups of polymer clayers in the UK pay to have US demonstrators to come over here and do roadshows. Gimmee a job, I could do that!
She seems very nice |

that's fantastic Lorna you must be proud. I had a nice surprise to today the painting I did of Marrakech, was taken from a photo a friend had taken whilst on holiday. Unbeknown to her, her husband had sent a copy to the place where they stayed at, this is the email they sent back "Hello there!
WOW! Beautiful!!!
May I put it on my blog mentioning you as the artist and with you homepage adresse??" It does wonders for the self-esteem |
