We had fun when Rob K started the Sacred Space title painting so I thought it would be good to do a similar thing, but with a charity donation and a prize for the winner. The charity http://www.rarercancers.org.uk/ is going to be the recipient, simply because those of us with rare cancers need to be able to research information for our best chance of survival. This site was set up to be a central point of information for both patients, families and professionals. You make think “why another site” because there are any number of cancer information sites around, but if you have a rare cancer the consultant treating you may have only treated a few people – or even none -with that cancer and naturally will be unable to give very much information about the condition and its likely prognosis, so we need a place where we can obtain accurate information ourselves. ( unfortunately there's always plenty of inaccurate info around) and network with others who have the same or similar rarer cancers.
The Topic I've chosen is Isolation as that's exactly how many of us feel when diagnosed. It's open to any form of art, photography, sculpture or painting so long as you can upload an image of your work onto the website. The 4 prizes consist of £50 cash, £30 of brushes from Rosemary brush site http://www.rosemaryandco.com , £30 of books from search press books www.searchpress.com and a £20 voucher for craft materials from Lornas' new website www.allthatjazz-crafts.co.uk I'm hoping we may be able to offer more prizes, but sponsorship is very difficult to obtain. Thankyou to our sponsors for helping us this way.
I'm asking that you donate to the website directly, we are currently discussing the best way of collecting donations and hopefully setting up an on-line facility, as soon as it's set up I'll post here. I suggest a £5 donation – but we will be happy to accept more!! You won't be able to upload entries yet – I will create a specific topic for that in the competitions forum at the beginning of May, but I thought (hoped) some people may want to get started on a entry. I'll also create a topic where we can comment on peoples work, if you don't want comments on your entry simply put “No Comments please” when you upload your work. The competition will be judged by the charity, and they may wish to use images of the winning pieces for publicity purposes, but copyright will remain with the artist. Use of images for publicity purposes associated with this competition is a term of entry.
How to enter Entry to the competition is open to anyone but to upload work to the website yourself you will need to be a member of http://forum.jeanniezelos.com/ but if anyone doesn't wish to join then if they contact me I will give details of how to join in the competition without joining the forum.
Upload facilities will be live from around 9th May 2007. Simply make a donation to the charity and load your work onto the site. Please read the “how to upload images” topic – it gives information on how to upload artworks and the size restrictions. ( n.b. topic not yet uploaded...will be done same time as upload facilities for competition)
Terms and conditions
The artwork you enter must be your own artwork and copyright must reside with you.
By posting your artwork you grant Jeannie Zelos a limited non-exclusive licence to display the image(s) on this website. You may revoke the licence and request the image(s) be removed from this website at any time. Please also note we are not responsible for other people, search engines etc. who may crawl and archive content from the public areas of this site.
Use of images for publicity purposes associated with this competition is a term of entry.
Please use your judgement over entries, nothing likely to offend please. If you are in doubt over an entry email me first for guidance. Entries which are offensive will be removed, you may replace it with one which will not offend, however should you choose not to donations made will not be refunded.
Entry to the competition is open to anyone but to upload work to the website yourself you will need to be a member of http://forum.jeanniezelos.com/ If anyone doesn't wish to join then if they contact me I will give details of how to join in the competition without joining the forum. Use the email contact in the FAQ, on the home page of the forum.
Upload facilities will be live from around 9th May 2007. Simply make a donation to the charity and load your work onto the site. Details of how to donate will be posted same time as upload facilities.
Entry will close on 30th August 2007
Prizes are not exchangeable for cash.
Decisions over entries and prizewinners are final, no discussions will be entered into.
Only one entry per person please. **********************************************************
Once the upload facilities are “live” - 9th May hopefully– please spread the word about this competition on other forums to which you belong or to other artists you know. It would be great if we were able to raise a decent sum for the charity – it's such a deserving cause and there can be few people who haven't been affected either directly or indirectly by cancer.
If anyone has any questions either email me or post them here. |

Does anyone have any questions, or anything? I'm a bit worried that there's no comments and wonder if anyone will take part....It is all proceeds to the charity, and a really good cause ( though aren't they all sadly) am I worrying about nothing or is there anything i need to change to make it more attractive ( apart from more prizes - i tried hard but everyone is chasing the same thing ) If you've any viewpoints please say. |

| Just the image Kos, the work and the copyright stays with artist, but we may want to use the image for publicity - but it will only be publicicity associated with the competition. |

sorry Jeannie I did read your post and thought it a good idea, a bit like the Lilly Oncology one. I did even think about your subject matter, Isolation, and it evoked some very unpleasant memories fo my time in isolation, when I had polio as a small child. But, and this is not an excuse, I have my operation on my shoulder on the 2cnd of May, and just before that little Daniel is off to Great Ormand St for his operation.another worry, plus we have family/relations problems too. I am sorry it sounds awful to make these excuses as such. I would, and will try to see if I can get myself motivated, it is such a worthwhile endeavour, and all the help should be given for a change to the lesser known illnesses. |

Thanks for the info Jeannie, sorry was out of touch without the broadband but all sorted now How is it going? |
Artwork that is only about wanting to be famous will never make you famous. Any fame is a by-product of making something that means something. You don't go to a restaurant and order a meal because you want to have a shlt (Banksy) www.lornastorey.co.uk www.allthatjazzgallery.co.uk |

great Ros , I keep thinking that having done all this so far no-one is going to enter but it really is a great cause to support- your money could help provide information that can save someones life. It really is that essential. |

Thanks wendy thats two then I'm sure it'll work out once a few people have posted entries, and its early days as I have allowed plenty of time . It's just that I've never done this before and don't want to let the charity down, so its good to know that some people are thinking about it. |

I know what I want to paint, it's just finding the energy to do it at the moment. |
